OpenABLS
Open-Source Artificial Brain Life Support
OpenABLS is an open development platform for artificial brain life support. We combine the ABLS Continuity Platform, brain-computer interfaces, and robotic embodiment to help enable continuity of life for people with non-brain body failure.
Vision
Life continues with autonomy, relationships, work, education and play — supported by the continuity platform.
Roadmap
From open workbench to commercial reference platform — transparent milestones, open development and community collaboration
Practicals
Touchables, documents, and ways to contribute today — engineers, researchers, partners, and supporters are welcome.
Under Construction — OpenABLS began in July 2026 and both the project and this page are in rapid early development. Some interactive elements, including buttons and linked pages, may not yet be built. For any inquiries about the project, please email info@righttolive.ca
What OpenABLS is
Continuity Platform
A life-sustaining system that supports brain viability outside the body, forming the foundation for continuity of life.
Open Development
Open hardware, documentation, and designs that anyone can study, build upon, and improve.
Reference Build
A reproducible, tested reference platform to accelerate research and real-world deployment.
1. The Vision
OpenABLS preserves the continuity of a person's life—not just keeping tissue alive.
A person remains present, connected, autonomous, and a part of family and society.
3. The Practicals
All the practicals—documented openly.
This section contains the touchables: the documents, build resources, standards, community touchpoints, and contribution pathways that let people engage with the project today.
Build
For engineers, researchers, and designers working on the platform.
Access build guides, BOMs, and CAD files
Prototype, test, and validate systems.
Share results and improve designs
Collaborate on hardware & software
Contribute
For contributors who strengthen the foundation through knowledge and collaboration
Improve documentation and guides.
Join discussions and working groups.
Propose and refine standards.
Publish research and open knowledge.
Support
For supporters who help expand impact and enable access worldwide.
Sponsor to fuel open development.
Advocate and spread awareness.
Partner with communities and institutions.
Help bring continuity to more people.
OpenABLS practicals are open, community-developed, and intended to help the world build, test, and improve the continuity platform — together.
2. The Roadmap
Three generations of open development—built in the open, for the world.

Development-Stage Notice: OpenABLS is a reference-design initiative under development. It is not a clinically available product and it is not intended for medical use in its current form.
No Animal or Human Use: OpenABLS development platforms are not intended to be used with live matter. Development is intended to be done with simulated loads in place of live brain tissue.
